Like/Dislike – June Edition
Friday afternoons find many Weaverites gathered in the break room for a happy-hour beer, talking about important world events like who got kicked off “Top Chef” and that hilarious cat-fights-printer video. Below, you’ll find recent Friday topics that have brought us digital-marketing types great joy and great sorrow. Well, maybe not sorrow, but at least some spirited grousing.

Points for Style
Three cheers for the Associate Press Stylebook for finally deciding to live in the now. Its outdated, no good, too-much-space-taking “Web site,” has been thrown overboard for the much-loved and more commonly used “website.” For people who geek out about these types of things like we do, check out FakeAPStylebook on Twitter. A few recent gems:
- Do not be afraid to use exclamation points in your writing. They can sense fear.
- Do not confuse the Mexican holiday “Cinco de Mayo” with the recent condiment stock trading scandal, “Sinkhole de Mayo.”
- It is no longer necessary to write new stories about Facebook privacy issues; just change the dates.
- Daylight saving time – not “savings,” thanks to those tax-and-spend Democrats, are we right?

There’s a Pocket For That
Gadget worshippers rejoice! SCOTTeVEST, maker of clothing for people who used to be called nerds but are now euphemistically termed “early adopters,” has announced a line of iPad-compatible clothing. For the savvy tourist among this population, we recommend the 22-pocket travel vest. With secret nooks and holders designed specifically for iPads or Kindles, smart phones, ear buds, Camelbak-style water-hydration systems, travel documents, memory cards and more, the vest is perfect for those known to be prepared for every digital occasion. The company has a lightweight, surprisingly fashionable (given the number of pockets it’s smuggling) garment for anything else you can imagine toting along whilst sightseeing.

Fleecing the Flier: Airline Baggage Fees
Much has been said about the recent transition of air travel to a costly, personal-space invading adventure that tests your patience at every checkpoint, gate and upright tray-table position, but Spirit Airlines recent announcement that it will charge $45 for carry-on bags is the last straw.
It’s gonna take some creativity to get around this indignity: How many pairs of pants can I wear at once? If I wear a Rockies cap during my business meeting, I won’t need to bring my hairdryer. Perhaps the Rick Steves model of packing — two wrinkle-impervious safari shirts crammed in a fanny pack per week of travel — will serve me better than my previous one-outfit-a-day plan. If only someone made a vest with 20-plus pockets.
To Spirit Airlines and any others considering following suit, we say in no uncertain terms, “We will avoid flying with you … If at all possible … Unless you’re the cheapest.” And to helpful articles like this one in the New York Times, we say, “Thanks for the packing tips!”
